The Scorpions U12 Mixed team played it’s first two games in the Buckinghamshire Basketball League yesterday (Sunday 11th November  2012) and suffered two heavy defeats vs Didcot Devils (04 – 31) and vs Stevenage Scorpions (14 – 48). These were the first competitive games most of the team had ever played and with only one Year 7 in the team this weekend and also four players in only Year 5 it was always going to be tough to start with. The team struggled to take care of the ball and this led to a lot of points being conceded in transition and also frustrated it’s ability to put an organised offence together, leading to very few high quality shooting opportunities. However, the effort and commitment shown by the team in their first outing was commendable as they kept their heads high throughout, worked as hard as they could on applying what we had been working on at training and focused on making the most of the opportunity to practice what they have been learning in a competitive game scenario. Clearly there is a long way to go and a lot of work to be done, particularly on making better passes, moving without the ball, fitness levels and both individual and team defense but this is to be expected and gives us some clear targets ahead of our next games.
