How do I join Shenley Scorpions Basketball Club?
It’s easy! The first session is completely FREE OF CHARGE! There is no need to contact us ahead of time, unless you have any questions, just check the website to find the relevant age group and come along 15 minutes ahead of time to register! (Emergency contact details will be required). Once you have had your FREE GO and you want to join then just download copies of the Payment Instructions and Membership Form and return at one of our training sessions along with the necessary payments detailed!
How much does it cost to play for Shenley Scorpions?
Not much at all! This season all our training sessions have been increased to 2 hours (except U10 Mixed) to aid player development so the monthly cost will be as follows:

Minis U10 Mixed U12 Mixed U14 Mixed U16 Boys U18 Boys
£10 £15 £20 £20 £20 £20

This monthly charge covers the cost of all training sessions and Buckinghamshire Basketball League games taking place in that month! Training sessions must be paid for monthly whether players attend or not as court fees must be paid.

In addition there is a one-off membership registration fee of £20 (reduced to £10 for each additional sibling) to cover the cost of player registration and insurance via England Basketball.

We do not force anyone to buy a kit as we have a full set of match kits provided by the club if you want to play for one of our teams in the Buckinghamshire Basketball League. Scorpions club merchandise is available for anyone interested.

Please remember we are a community club run entirely by volunteers! All funds received are put back into the club.

I would like to learn to be a referee/table official/coach, do you have any courses or programmes for me to learn and get experience at this?
Shenley Scorpions is committed to not just developing basketball players but also Coaches, Referees and Table Officials within Milton Keynes. Therefore we aim to send willing individuals to relevant training courses before the start of each Buckinghamshire Basketball League season. Shenley Scorpions pay for all our coaches to get qualified and put a lot of time into supporting the ongoing development of our coaches. The Buckinghamshire Basketball League pays all of its Referees and Table Officials for their services, so it is definitely worth getting in contact with us if you are interested in any of these.
Do I have to be really good at basketball to join Shenley Scorpions?
Not necessarily no! As a club our motto is ‘Basketball for All’ and as such we offer all players of every age and gender the opportunity to play competitive basketball in the Buckinghamshire Basketball League. We recognise that players learn and develop at different stages and at different speeds so we welcome everyone to join and have fun!
Is Shenley Scorpions only for players that are not good enough to play national league level basketball?
Not at all! While we welcome players of all abilities we have players that represent the County, the South Region, the South RPC, and England National Teams. Our partnership with the Bucks Hornets allows our particularly talented players to compete at the National League level as part of an elite programme drawing together the best players from across Buckinghamshire. Our players representing the region and England national teams compete in the next age group up in the Buckinghamshire Basketball League to further their development.
I am interested in representing Shenley Scorpions Basketball Club in the Buckinghamshire Basketball league, how old do I have to be?
We are the only basketball club in Milton Keynes that enters the Buckinghamshire Basketball League in every age group to ensure that all our players get the chance to play competitive basketball. Currently the Buckinghamshire Basketball League operates U12 Mixed, U14 Mixed, U16 Boys and U18 Boys so Shenley Scorpions have aligned our teams with these categories.
I have heard about the Bucks Hornets, how do I get to play for them?
The Bucks Hornets are a new national league programme based in the centre of Buckinghamshire, playing and training out of Aylesbury, committed to the development of young basketball players to become elite performers on and off the basketball court. Shenley Scorpions has sent numerous players to the Bucks Hornets to continue their development and recommends all of their most talented players join the Bucks Hornets programme in addition to their training with Shenley Scorpions.
